Job Description

• Lead exploration, prototyping, maturing and implementation of new technologies into functional medium volume prototypes to validate technical and product level functionality, use cases and tech maturity.
• Work alongside a diverse and expert Client team consisting of EE, FW/SW, Audio, Optical engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead technology development projects through creation of functional prototypes, development of test methods
• Support RnD projects (NTI and NPI) through the design of systems and test vehicles for new technology introduction studies and technology development.

Requisition Details

• Design product components and systems for consumer electronics
• Design electromechanical and optomechanical systems for device testing and validation
• Develop and implement test methods for design validation
• Contribute to creation of technical specifications and product definition.
• Work closely with Client team consisting of EE, FW/SW/, Audio, Optical, REL, MfgEng

Minimum Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of experience designing and shipping components or systems for consumer electronics or similar mid to high-volume industries.

Strong engineering fundamentals and experience with:

• Material science experience with relevant materials for consumer electronics: plastics, metals, insulators, gaskets, thermal interface materials.
• Heat transfer
• Statics
• Dynamics
• Structural design
• Experience with production drawings
• Experience with tolerance analysis
• Familiarity with PCBA and FPC design and manufacturing methods.
• Experience with various subtractive and additive manufacturing technologies for production and prototyping: injection molding, sheet metal, co-molding, machining, CNC
• Data analysis and visualization experience (matlab, python, jmp or similar)
• Experience building part and assembly prototypes in the shop
• Highly proficient in NX

Preferred Qualification

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience researching and implementing new technologies or materials or methods in high volume environment.
• 10+ years of experience designing components or systems for consumer electronics or similar high volume industries.
• Experience in multiple industries in a design and manufacturing capacity.
• Experience designing parts with highly cosmetic surfaces
• Mechanism design
• Electronics cooling and thermal architecture design and testing experience
• Sensor design experience
• Optomechanical experience
• DOE and SPC experience
• FEA experience (order of importance): statics, dynamics, thermal, fluids
• Knowledge of design for reliability
• Familiarity with reliability and compliance testing
• Knowledge of electrical design, hardware automation, arduino, etc…

Key Projects/Day-to-Day

Responsibilities:

• Design and Modeling: Creating 3D models and designs for smart glasses components and systems.
• Simulation and Analysis: Running simulations and analyzing data to optimize design performance.
• Prototyping and Testing: Building and testing prototypes to validate design concepts.
• Collaboration and Communication: Working with Client teams to ensure design alignment and effective communication.
• Problem-Solving: Troubleshooting design issues and finding creative solutions.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate documentation and reporting progress to stakeholders.

• Success in this role is measured by the ability to independently drive projects to completion, deliver successful outcomes, and consistently show initiative and motivation while collaborating with the broader team.

Must-Have Skills

• 5+ years of experience: At least 5 years of experience designing and shipping components or systems for consumer electronics or similar mid to high-volume industries.

Strong engineering fundamentals: Strong understanding of engineering principles, including:

• Material science
• Heat transfer
• Statics
• Dynamics
• Structural design
• PCBA and FPC design: Familiarity with PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) and FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) design and manufacturing methods.

High levelManufacturing technologies:

• Knowledge of various subtractive and additive manufacturing technologies, such as injection molding, sheet metal, co-molding, machining, and CNC.

Requisition Details

• NX proficiency: Highly proficient in using CAD software, specifically NX, for design and modeling.
• Prototyping experience: Experience building part and assembly prototypes in the shop.
