Description

Title: Seed Health Technician

High School Diploma or Bachelors Degree required.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Complete standardized procedures for detection and quantification of bacteria, viruses, and fungi in vegetable seeds
  • Read and understand work instructions and procedures
  • Apply aseptic technique and defined hygiene procedures to ensure quality and containment of plant pathogens
  • Accurately record and enter test results
  • Perform repetitive work while maintaining focus on detail and quality (e.g. grinding vegetable seeds, washing lab dishes, and autoclaving materials)
  • Recognize and report deviations from standard procedures
  • Learn and follow safety procedures
  • Contribute to enhancing safety culture
  • Contribute to miscellaneous lab improvement projects
  • Apply basic laboratory and math skills

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (minimum) or Bachelor’s in Science, Biology or related field preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Lab Technician preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Laboratory work, including growth room/chamber
  • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and bending performing repetitive tasks
  • Occasional lifting 30-40 lbs., frequent lifting 15-20 lbs.
  • Handling of quarantine plant pathogens in a restricted facility
