Resins Technical Service Lab Technician

100% onsite

EDUCATION:
Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Chemical engineering with hands on lab experience OR High school diploma with >5 years of hands-on lab experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Hands-on lab experience

This position requires comfortability in working with water-based and solvent based coatings and the ability to wear a respirator hood for spraying of paints.

Job description:

  • In this role, the selected individual would be responsible for executing defined formulations for customer projects ranging from 1K waterborne coatings for metal, 2K solventborne coatings for metal applications.
  • Application of these coatings include transportation, protective and marine, general industrial, and maintenance applications.
  • These projects are dynamic and are based on the needs of our customers and markets at a given time. You will work in a team environment in a shared lab space with other technicians, chemists, and technical specialists. Teamwork and safety mindset are of utmost importance.

 

Formulation includes:

  • Use of balances, containment
  • Proper sample labeling
  • Mixing of precisely weighed out materials through overhead mixers
  • Use of a high shear disperser blade for pigment incorporation
  • Using a variety of additives to adjust viscosity, tune flow and wetting behavior and minimizing foam
  • Safe operation of equipment and cleaning of equipment
  • Application includes:
  • Drawdowns of paint via wire rod, drawdown bars
  • Use of HVLP spray gun to apply paint to panels
  • Drying panels in an oven
  • Wearing a respirator hood and jumpsuit to spray in the spray booth

 

Testing may include (but not limited to):

  • Pot-life testing, viscosity measurement testing, gloss measurement, chemical resistance, adhesion testing, corrosion testing, humidity resistance testing, scratch resistance testing, hardness testing, impact resistance testing, abrasion resistance testing, water resistance testing, dry time testing, gloss and color retention on accelerated weathering

 

Data collection:

  • Individual must be able to follow protocols, document findings in an organized fashion, and report out to technical specialists or technical manager, their findings.
  • Individual must be familiar with Microsoft platform of tools
