Length of Contract: 6 months

Location/Site: Cambridge (CRC) - 100% onsite

What are the top 3-5 skills, experience or education required for this position:

  • Experience with human organoid culture
  • Experience with in vitro assays with primary human immune cells (ie myeloid, PBMCs)
  • Experience with molecular and cellular analysis techniques including qPCR, MSD, ELISA, flow cytometry

Job description:

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and passionate scientist to join our team in Immunology Discovery based in Cambridge MA.

  • In this role, the candidate will collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams to advance portfolio projects, with a particular emphasis on supporting in vitro data generation.
  • Responsibilities include performing and adapting cell-based in vitro protocols in a timely manner across diverse cell systems, data analysis and effective communication of results, and collaboration across multiple teams.

  • The position requires ability to work independently, demonstrate excellent technical, written and oral communication skills and work very well in a collaborative team environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Human colon organoid culture, passaging, and plating for experiments to support the group
  • Perform cell-based assays using cell lines and mammalian primary cells
  • Test biologic and small molecules in cell-based assays for functional readouts including cell proliferation, cytokine release, and gene expression.
  • Perform advanced molecular and cellular biology techniques (including but not limited to FACS, ELISA, MSD, HTRF, qPCR)
  • Responsibilities may include processing animal tissue ex vivo and isolation of immune cells from human and animal tissue or blood
  • Work independently on the design, execution and interpretation of experimental results to validate hypotheses related to the project need
  • Maintain close communication with multiple groups to support human colon organoid cell needs
  • Implement and innovate new experimental protocols/techniques as needed
  • Analyze, interpret, document and report data consistently, concisely and rigorously, both to individual stakeholders and in group settings
  • Demonstrate scientific excellence through dedication to multiple projects in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment
  • Impact projects mostly through lab-based activities

Qualifications and requirements:

  • The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science or related field with 2+ years of experience in biotech or pharma setting (industry experience)
  • Experience in in vitro cell culture (sterile techniques, handling challenging cell types) is required. Experience with cell-based assay development is a plus.
  • Experience with primary epithelial cells and human colon organoids is required.
  • Experience with immune cells including myeloid cells (monocytes macrophages or dendritic cells) is required.
  • Experience in immunoassays including multi-color flow cytometry and ELISA (or MSD, HTRF) is required.
  • Experience with gene expression analysis by qPCR is required
  • Experience with ex vivo animal tissue processing is a plus.
  • Ability to learn new skills and apply them in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Creativity, problem-solving, and attention to details.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Proven flexibility to deal with changing timelines and shifting work priorities.
