Location: The primary location for this position is remote.
20.00 Hours Per Week
Comments:
- We will not consider group underwriters, disability underwriters nor any underwriter that is not familiar with reviewing all underwriting requirements and complete medical records (not just summaries).
Position Summary
- The Senior Life Underwriter is accountable for managing assigned work, developing agency relationships, and ensuring customer satisfaction at the highest level.
- The position requires the individual to operate in a cross-functional team environment.
You are:
- The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and confidently make underwriting decisions that provide the best offer within their assigned approval authority and protect mortality.
- They will also be able to transform conceptual thinking into competitive decisions that align with company philosophy and department guidelines.
You have:
- 3-5 years of experience in individual life underwriting
- Bachelor’s degree
- Industry related education (ALU, CLU, LOMA, etc.)
- Knowledge of underwriting manuals, MIB (Medical Information Bureau) reporting, and various risk assessment vendor tools
- An aptitude for risk assessment, collaboration, and customer service
- The ability to think divergently.
- Knowledge of individual life insurance products/processes
- Analytical, Negotiation, Written and Oral communication skills.
- Exceptional decision-making skills and organizational and time management skills
You will:
- Recognize and obtain requirements necessary in evaluating risks, consistently using a comprehensive approach (a “broadened view” of the entire case to forecast all needs and requirements at onset)
- Evaluate medical, financial, and non-medical information, as developed, to determine the risk classification according to company guidelines.
- Collaborate with our reinsurers to negotiate and secure risk classification for business that may exceed our mortality standards, exceed our corporate retention, and/or for the benefit of securing a more competitive offer.
- Communicate with field partners and home office personnel for the purpose of acquiring necessary information, solving problems, negotiating appeals, and conveying decisions in a polite, confident, and professional manner.
Reporting Relationships
- As our Senior Life Underwriter, you will report to our Underwriting Manager, who reports to our Lead of Underwriting Operations.
