Project Management, Continuous Improvement and Communications are key components of this position.

Manager's Update 

  • Develops, implements, and maintains Operational Excellence (OpEx) programs using Lean Six Sigma, value stream mapping, visual management, and change management.
  • Leads continuous improvement projects: identifying opportunities, developing project charters, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing timelines, tracking results, and removing barriers.
  • Ensures alignment across related projects and business processes.
  • Supports OpEx strategy focused on cost reduction, cycle-time reduction, and waste elimination.
  • Drives visual management, data analysis, and continuous improvement culture; acts as a change agent.
  • Documents OpEx practices and reports project metrics in a timely manner.
  • Partners with division/site leadership; requires strong communication, facilitation, and credibility.
Additional Skills/Tools:
  • Experience with change management, metrics, and employee engagement.
  • Smartsheet, AirTable/SmartTable, Excel, PowerPoint; PowerBI preferred.
  • Strong software application skills and analytical/problem-solving mindset (engineering background helpful).
  • Collaborative, curious, strong communicator.
Day to Day:
 
  • Work varies: begin with lower-visibility or in-progress projects.
  • Supports project management tool rollouts and broader process-leader responsibilities.
  • Identifies and documents opportunities to improve how work is performed.
  • Focus on reducing manual effort and enabling better, data-driven decision-making.
  • Heavy use of Smartsheet, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Education and Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, Communications, or related.
  • Minimum 2 years in project management, change management, coordination, or continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Industrial Engineering and regulatory experience are pluses.   


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • The Sr. Business Process Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining components of an Operational Excellence (OpEx) program.
  • The program utilizes methodologies and tools such as Lean Six Sigma, value stream mapping, visual management, and change management to drive continuous improvement and create a lean culture.
  • The incumbent will be responsible to lead and execute continuous improvement projects within the business unit and effectively coordinate these projects with the functional champion and other project improvement teams.
  • Project leadership includes identifying opportunities, coaching sponsors in the writing of effective project charters, using project management to manage team activities, leading teams to execute projects, tracking project status and results, escalating project barriers, and developing team members.
  • It is also critical to identify integration issues with other projects/processes and coordinate the improvements with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include:
  • Active support of the OpEx strategy and corporate initiatives
  • Assist leadership in the identification of improvement projects to include cost reduction, cycle time reduction and waste elimination.
  • Lead and execute process improvement projects using OpEx / lean tools and techniques with a concentration on communication and change management.
  • Define OpEx goals, project plans and coordinate project teams, ensuring that projects are integrated with business strategies.
  • Drive visual management and data understanding.
  • Influence and motivate employees to identify opportunities to apply lean techniques, tools and philosophies to
  • Act as a change agent and help team members learn, understand, adjust and grow within a continuous improvement culture.
  • Incorporate and document OpEx practices into systems, processes, and protocols
  • Ensure project metrics and timelines are reported via appropriate systems in a timely manner.
  • Identify, collect, monitor and report critical OpEx metrics as required.
  • This position will have responsibility for providing support for a matrix team organization of operations personnel. The individual interacts with division and site management and therefore requires high levels of competence, confidence, and credibility.
  • Strategic and tactical decisions that affect the program direction and execution will be made based on the information and recommendations the individual provides in a management and/or informal setting.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelors Degree (± 7 yrs) Engineering, Business, Operations, Communications

Experience/Background

  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated success in applying project management, change management and continuous improvement tools
  • Minimum 2 years in operations, business improvement
  • Change Management experience
  • Project management and team leadership experience essential
  • Demonstrated performance in delivering results
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Highly motivated process thinker that drives customer focused solutions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and group facilitation skills.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Industrial Engineering experience a plus. 

Licenses and Certifications

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification preferred
