Bench Scientist - II
The team is hiring 1 Bench Scientist II to support a growing DNA production group in Cambridge.
The role is fully onsite and offered as a 24-month contract
- The opening is due to increased production demand, requiring an additional team member.
- The work environment is a DNA production group, where tasks are repetitive but critical, with opportunities to engage in newer technologies.
- The team has recently incorporated automation, liquid handling, scripting, and 3D printing, though these are not strict requirements.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- DNA production workflows (transformations, sample prep, culturing)
- Sample processing and quality control (QC)
- Submitting samples for sequencing
- Managing lab requests and communications
- Tracking data via systems like LIMS and FreezerPro
- Working with automated instruments (liquid handlers)
What We Are Looking for in a Candidate
Must-Have Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in DNA production (critical requirement)
- Around 2+ years of industry experience
- OR Master’s degree with relevant experience
- Background in molecular biology / biotech lab work
- Comfortable working in a repetitive, production-focused environment
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience in CROs or production-focused pharma environments
Familiarity with:
- Automation / liquid handling systems
- Scripting or tech development tools
- Nanopore or in-house sequencing
Experience with platforms like:
- OpenTrons, Tecan, Biomek, Biotage
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Has prior experience in DNA production workflows and understands production lab operations
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple requests and communications
- Comfortable with routine/repetitive lab work, while adaptable to new tools and technologies
- Open to learning—team is willing to train on advanced/technical aspects
- Bonus: experience in automation-driven or high-throughput environments
