Role Overview
- We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to support the packaging team at our Branchburg facility. This role focuses on packaging development, design, specification writing, and cross-functional collaboration within a healthcare/medical device environment.
- The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on packaging engineering experience, preferably in the healthcare or medical device industry, and the ability to work across multiple teams including quality, operations, logistics, and vendors.
Manager's Update
- Develop and maintain packaging specifications
- Support package design, development, and testing activities
- Drive on-market changes, including design updates and improvements
- Participate in investigations and CAPAs from an engineering perspective
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Operations, Logistics, Suppliers)
- Coordinate with vendors/suppliers for packaging solutions
- Support change control / change management processes
- Contribute to packaging-related documentation and compliance activities
- Strong Packaging Engineering experience (near must-have)
- Experience in Packaging design & development, Specification writing, Packaging testing
- Exposure to CAPA / investigations, Change management / change control
- Ability to work in a cross-functional environment
- Vendor/supplier coordination experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering
- Engineering degrees (Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, Manufacturing) with relevant packaging experience
- Packaging Engineer with 3–5 years of relevant experience
- Background in medical device or healthcare packaging
- Strong technical and hands-on packaging knowledge
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Candidates with 10+ years experience are acceptable if aligned with pay rate
- PhD candidates are acceptable
Preferred Skills
- Experience in healthcare / medical device packaging
- Knowledge of packaging tools/software ArtiosCAD, AutoCAD, SolidWorks
- Exposure to Label development, Carton design
- Understanding of packaging interactions with product development
Description:
An engineering professional who applies scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to complete assignments related to packaging commodities, process and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for addressing regulatory requirements related to packaging medical devices.
- Responsible for compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Plans and conducts small- to medium-size assigned packaging engineering projects may include developing packaging designs, assessing supplier changes or capabilities, packaging equipment interface, testing protocols, and supporting investigations.
- Supports and coordinates with cross functional teams to align development and implementation strategies for packaging changes or solutions.
- Independently executes the design of packaging solutions by applying standard engineering theories, concepts, and techniques within the discipline. Independently investigates, conducts tests or experiments.
- Improves methods/designs/processes. Recognizes and implements good ideas/innovations/costs reductions; consistently generates/adopts original solutions to problems and reduces them to practices.
- Creates and implements package component specifications and technical documentation.
Qualifications
- A Bachelors Degree in Engineering, science or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 2+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience.
- Additional post-graduate education may contribute towards the desired years of experience.
- Has demonstrated competency within an engineering discipline.
- Packaging engineering preferred.
- Possesses a working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors including root cause analysis and design requirement development.
- Demonstrates judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
- Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
- Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment.
- Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
- Has a technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries (preferred).
